What is the Outsiders CrossFit Intramural Open?
The Outsiders Intramural Open is more than just a competition—it’s one of the most anticipated events of our year. Designed to run in sync with the global CrossFit Open, this three-week in-house event transforms the traditional workout into an experience that celebrates community, camaraderie, and personal growth. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to CrossFit, our Intramural Open is all about testing your fitness, having fun, and sharing the journey with friends, family, and even friendly strangers.

  • Fun & Engagement: From themed events like our “Friday Night Lights” to creative team challenges, there’s always something exciting around the corner.

How Does It Work?
The Intramural Open spans three weeks, with workouts released on Thursdays and executed during Friday classes—ensuring that everyone gets the chance to participate at the designated times. Here’s a quick look at our schedule:

  • Week 1 (2/27 to 3/5):
    Kick off with the “Friday Night Lights: The Kickoff” event on 2/28 from 5 PM to 7 PM.
  • Week 2 (3/6 to 3/12):
    Keep the momentum going with “Suffer On Saturday” on 3/8 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
  • Week 3 (3/13 to 3/18):
    Finish strong with “Friday Night Lights: The Party” on 3/14 starting at 5 PM and going until the fun winds down.

Team Dynamics & Points System
One of the best parts? The team competition! Here’s how it goes:

  • Team Formation:
    All athletes sign up, and then team captains are chosen. Teams are drafted by drawing names from a hat, ensuring an element of surprise and fairness.
  • Communication is Key:
    Once teams are formed, many create text groups, Facebook groups, or email chains to keep the energy high and the strategy flowing.
  • Earning Points:
    Points are awarded not just for workout performance, but also for commitment and team spirit. For example:
    • Attendance: Attend 5+ classes in the week prior to earn 5 points, or 3-4 classes for 4 points.
    • Open WOD: Earn 4 points for completing the workout during the designated time and 2 points if you do it on your own time.
    • Team Colors: Donning your team’s color during the workout fetches an extra 2 points.
    • Team Challenges: Look forward to additional points during special events like Friday/Saturday challenges.
