June Athlete of the Month - Dominic Levis
Published June 20, 2018
Dominic impresses us everyday with his hardwork and discipline. All we can really say is WOW. All of his results have been so well earned and we could not be prouder or happier for him.
1. What was your fitness background prior to joining Outsiders?
The past 15 years with being married and having 3 kids my fitness background consisted of going to the Y with the kids for some cardio. I was always a sports oriented person in high school / college etc. however, as your workload gets more involved, having kids and just life itself I fell into the slump of letting myself go and always thought I never had the time to really dedicate myself to bettering my fitness. I was at the point I couldn’t really see myself ever losing a lot of weight or getting into shape.
2. When did you first start at Outsiders?
I started my intro in Mid to late December 2017.
3. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
The Coaches and group setting. It provides me with the structure I needed to realize I do have the time to better myself. I don’t have to think about anything – I can be busy at work and life and know that I just have to show up to Outsiders and they take care of the rest. Things can get monotonous for me after time and Outsiders provides different workouts daily, little challenges, the 6 month committed club and the 12 month committed club which keeps me motivated to try and hit those little goals. When I first started out hitting any PR or RX goals was not really my goal nor a reality, it was showing up consistently and listening to the coaches each day and having those other little goals listed above really made the difference for me.
4. What is one goal that you have in the next year?
I would like to lose some more weight and accomplish consistent kipping pullups and T2b’s. I finally got my first kipping pull up after 5+ months – it sort of makes you forget about how long it took to get there I was just happy I got one. It’s funny you can think about all your accomplishments in life and the one that stands at the top of the list right now is my first Kipping Pullup! Haha.
5. What is one piece of advice that you would give someone considering Outsiders CrossFit or a new CrossFitter?
Do it and Just show up. Don’t worry about what you can or can’t do even if you’re the only one that can’t do it. When I had my intro back in December 2017 I remember two things. Those were Stan saying “just show up” and the second was that nutrition was just as important. I can’t say I wasn’t nervous being so out of shape and thinking everyone was going to be staring at the out of shape beginner who can’t do anything however, that was never the case. Everyone at Outsiders at every class I have been too has been truly amazing supporters, friendly and encouraging.
6. What do you see as your greatest improvement as well as some other results from doing CrossFit?
I have lost 41 pounds since December at Outsiders. 15 years of diets, workout fads, etc. has never produced the results outsiders has given me. I think that my awareness of how important nutrition is, when I first started I committed myself to eating better from day 1 as I wasn’t going to commit all this time working out to see no results. This has led to over 6 months of really changing how I eat and it has become more of a lifestyle change, the nutrition challenge really provided me a good set of tools to further what I didn’t know about how I eat. My overall health is better, since starting CrossFit I haven’t had one sick day, my daily heartburn is gone, I sleep better and longer.
