March Athlete of the Month - Don Fisher
Published March 27, 2018
Congrats to Don, our March Athlete of the Month. It has been amazing to watch his dedication toward his health pay off in big ways. The 4:30 crew just wouldn't be the same without him!
1. What was your fitness background prior to joining Outsiders?
Post college, I can describe my fitness regiment in one word - inconsistent. I might go all-in on running, P90X ("don't smash your face!"), or basic dumbbell lifting for a few weeks...and then fall off the wagon for a month. I never really stuck with anything for a meaningful length of time.
2. When did you first start at Outsiders?
3. What is your favorite thing about Outsiders CrossFit?
The variety. I have probably been into the gym a couple of hundred times since I joined, and I don't think I have repeated more than a dozen workouts or so.
4. What is one goal that you have in the next year?
I am heading to Scotland for a week of "bucket list golf" in late August. I need to shift my fitness level to be more mobile/flexible with a stronger core. Translated to CrossFit - more depth on squats/wall balls/everything, legit toes to bar, etc. I am not worried about strength-based PRs, etc.
5. What is one piece of advice that you would give someone considering Outsiders CrossFit or a new CrossFitter?
For somebody thinking about joining Outsiders, I would tell them to just relax. Nobody is judging you. For CrossFit in general, quite simply - it works! There is a reason we all get a bad rap for never shutting up about it... it's because we are excited to finally have found something that really works and keeps us motivated to keep coming back!
6. What do you see as your greatest improvement as well as some other results from doing CrossFit?
While I have lost about 25 pounds and am stronger than I have ever been, now that I am 40 (unfortunately), I am more concerned with the less vain aspects of my fitness - my cholesterol has dropped by over 20%, I am off all anti-depressants, I don't need to take meds to sleep at night, I wake up without back pain...but most importantly, I am happy again.
