June Athlete of the Month - Russell Ward

Russell has made huge strides in his fitness since starting at Outsiders. He is hard working and positive each time he walks through our door and because of his dedication he won our most recent nutrition challenge. His results have been impressive and we love having him at Outsiders!
1. What was your fitness background prior to joining Outsiders?
I started my fitness journey back in about 2008 with a good friend doing P90X. After that I pick up random hobbies with friends like tennis and skiing. I also started to do 5ks and obstacle runs. I also had a few gym memberships over the years.
2. When did you first start at Outsiders?
I started at Outsiders in August 2015.
3. What were your thoughts after your first workout?
I started doing the 5:30 AM classes when I first started at Outsiders. I remember thinking to myself should I be getting up this early in the morning to do this? After going to the class and working out I felt tired but felt good after doing the workout. It made me realize that this was what I needed to help improve my own fitness and health. I knew that getting up for the 5:30 class was worth it.
4. What is your favorite thing about Outsiders CrossFit?
The people and comradery. To me there is nothing better when sharing in the accomplishments of yourself and others.
5. What is one goal that you have this year?
Now that the April/May nutrition challenge is completed I’m looking to continue the path of healthy eating. I would like to see how far I can go if I just stick to it and change my life to make eating healthy apart of life instead of it being just a diet.
6. What is one piece of advice that you would give someone considering Outsiders CrossFit or a new CrossFitter?
There are a few things I would like to tell someone looking to start CrossFit. I think the most important is to listen to the coaches and your own body. The coaches will make sure you understand the movements and the best way to accomplish the movements. Your body will tell you if you’re doing the wrong thing or if you can do more or not.
7. What do you see as your greatest improvement as well as some other results from doing CrossFit?
If I could compare myself today to the me from August 2015 I know my moves and ability to perform have greatly improved. I feel that I can push myself further than I have in the past to accomplish more.
