March Athlete of the Month - Chris Buzby

Published March 11, 2016

Congrats to our March Athlete of the Month, Chris! Chris is a regular attender of the 5:30am class and always brings positive energy with him when he comes through our doors. He has made so many gains since starting CrossFit!  Read his story below:

1. What is your fitness background prior to joining Outsiders?

I have tried to stay active either hiking, rock climbing, running, mountain biking, or snow boarding, but have not been consistent in any of those activities since having kids 4 years ago.

2. When did you first start at Outsiders CrossFit?
August 2015, my neighbor John Wilke had mentioned outsiders a few times and it sounded interesting. When he dropped off a brochure at the house, I figured I should check it out before he showed up at my house at 5am...

3. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Every day there is a new challenge and opportunity to be better then I was the day before and I get to attack that with some of the nicest most encouraging people I have ever met.

4. This is your first year doing the CrossFit Open. What have you enjoyed most about it so far?
I like how much of a strategy game it is. Trying to be as efficient and effective in each movement, with the overall workout in mind. After watching the announcement, I have a hard time going to sleep as I try to think about how to do the best I can possibly do in each open workout.

5. What is one goal that you have this year?
I want to be able to do more rx workouts. So need to work on all the gymnastic movements, du, and adding some muscle to be able to effectively manage the weight. I did my first t2b only a few weeks ago, and hope to do my first hspu in the coming weeks. With the support of the coaches and trusting the process I know it will happen.

6. What is one piece of advice that you would give someone considering CrossFit or a new CrossFitter?
For anyone considering coming out, I would say just try it and forget the rumors of women turning into godzilla etc. The community at outsiders is amazing and you will see and feel the difference in no time at all. The reason a lot of crossfiters talk about crossfit so much is because of the great sense of accomplishment and the desire for others to share in that feeling. So come out and be amazed at what you can do.

7. What do you see as your greatest improvement as well as some other results from doing CrossFit?

Mobility! I think my first month of squats were about a half inch in depth and now it is considerably more. Overall stamina and body composition are also big areas of improvement. It is nice to not remember the last time I was tired at work...
