March Athlete of the Month - Olivia D'Ottavio

Congrats to Olivia! This hardworking Mom is such an inspiration. She adds so much positivity and energy to the classes she attends and makes Outsiders a better place.

1. What was your fitness background prior to joining Outsiders?

Before joining Outsiders, I trained with a friend of mine and did some running. But before that, I was never an "athlete." I barely knew how to do a squat and even when I was a little girl, I wore leotards under my soccer uniform. 

2. When did you first start at Outsiders?

February 2015 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!!

3. You did CrossFit throughout your pregnancy. Describe a little bit about that experience.

I cannot say enough positive things about continuing to stay active during my pregnancy. You go through so many changes that you have zero control over so going to the gym was my one constant. Even on my sickest of days, I came because I knew it would help me feel better. Of course, as my pregnancy progressed, I had to modify certain movements, but that is one of the amazing things about Crossfit, there's always a modification! And we’re lucky to have such amazing coaches at Outsiders who are so willing to help! Your body can do amazing things, first time doing full Murph, I was 7 months pregnant! But I do have to say, sometimes I miss that “burpee house.”

4. What is your favorite thing about Outsiders CrossFit?

Hands down, the community. I know when I walk through the door I will receive so much support from everyone, it is incredible! And I can honestly say the friends I have made will be lifelong. I am forever grateful for Outsiders and the love each person shows me every day.

5. What is one goal that you have this year?

Oh I have so many! Now that I'm starting to get pull ups, I would say toes to bar!

6. What is one piece of advice that you would give someone considering Outsiders CrossFit or a new CrossFitter?

It will change your life- I PROMISE! Just go, take the leap and give it a try! You won’t regret it.

7. What do you see as your greatest improvement as well as some other results from doing CrossFit?

I cannot say enough nice things about Outsiders and Crossfit. It has truly changed my life and has given me strength both in and outside of the gym. I was never a shy person, but I tended to hold myself back. Mostly because I was always afraid of failing. Once I let go over that fear, incredible things happened. I saw myself changing in ways I never thought possible. I’ve learned to love myself, to be brave and to be okay with the process.
